Firstly, let me say that I am not a racist. Its a very overused cliche but I have black and Asian friends and nothing is personal.
I do however feel that each country should look after its own and made to be responsible for them. I want Britain (England really) to remain British with the values we lived by years ago. I am sure many others feel the same about their own country.
I understand we have an obligation as humans to look after those not so fortunate but why just let everyone into our already overloaded country? Why isnt there a way of assisting the governments concerned and making other countries safer to live in?
I think I am coming across so naive but there has to be something better than what we have now.
To get back to my question, why am I always made to feel guilty for not wanting to throw open my arms and welcome every foreigner to these shores, legal or illegal? Arent we all entitled to an opinion?

There are a lot of people in this world, obviously more than there use to be. It doesn't make a person a racist just because you feel like there are already enough people in your country. How is that being racist?

In a perfect world maybe every one would look after their own, in their own country. But that just isn't going to happen, as there are now more people than ever. People are always going to think that the grass is greener on the other side of the fence so to speak, that's just how it is.

So people tend to want to move around and live where they want to live, even if it isn't in the country where they are from. My grandparents did the same thing years ago, they were from Switzerland and they wanted to live in Americal. They moved here and became citizens of the U.S. they settled in Wisconsin.

Are we going to do the " we are the world" and take on everybody and whip them into shape. I very much doubt that will ever happen. Look at the war on terror, how many countries just jumped right in to get involved with that. Yea, not a lot did, did they???

No, I don't think that your coming across as naive, but I don't see that there is any thing better than what we already have. If there is we sure haven't found it yet, have we??

Yes, every one is entitled to have their opinion, it's just that everyone will not agree with you and that will be them voicing their opinion as they are entitled to do.

It comes down to you feel the way you do and that is just how it is. I don't think that breaking the law to get into the U.S. is the proper way to come here, I don't welcome people who are law breakers. I'm not tripping on if any one likes how I feel about it or not.

I also feel that if some one wants to come into this contry then do it legally. Obey our laws right from the start, don't break the very first law by coming our country and then saying when you go to prison "I'm in here for nothing"! A vast majority of illegals say that when they get locked up.

I can say that, since I worked in a Federal Prison where they were brought after they were arrested, if I heard that statement once I heard it thousand of times. I feel like if you break the first law to get into our country how many more are you going to break just to be able to live here. To me that shows a lack of respect for our country/laws and our people, when you thumb your nose and break the law to get here.

I feel if your going to come into our country then do it the right way, do it with pride and respect by showing us as people who live here that you will be part of the solution and not part of the problem. I don't begrudge any one a better life, just please do it the right way.

That's my take on it, my opinion and I stand by it as an American.

It is a tactic used by all the lefties to replace sensible debate, because they know that they don't really have a sensible argument. What they do have is a left wing agenda which has no respect at all for the nation state. You will have noticed what contempt they have for our borders by looking at the immigration fiasco. However, it isn't a fiasco as far as they are concerned, it is part of their plan.

So, the 'racist' word is thrown around by dedicated lefties and those indoctrinated sheep that have swallowed their agenda. It is important to understand this before you can start to make sense of the tactics that they use. Lefties include, TV media, Government, teachers/lecturers, public sector and town halls, most of the legal profession and endless government sponsored quangos. There are also hundreds of thousands of indoctrinated students. So, you can see the size of the problem.

Ignore their childish name calling, and never never feel that you have to explain that you are not (that ridiculous word racist) to anyone. I never do.

Remember, the British governments responsibility is to its own citizens, that's why we elect them, not to the citizens of other countries, that's down to their own government. I have no problem with aid though.

You know that you are not racist but there happens to be alot of racists out there who have the same oppinion as you. Though they are fueld by hate and hide behind democratic rubbish.Like the BMP and the National front.
Sadly this will make people question your integrety and also wether they should feel that way because they do not want to seem racist!!
However racial hate is a big problem and so wrong. But some people are brain washed from a child.
I understand what you are saying I do not consider your comment to be racist unless you are actualy a racist.

You say :

'I have black and Asian friends'
As if being English depends on a person's skin color! EVERY person BORN IN UK IS BRITISH. No matter what their skin color is. And YOU have NO RIGHT to consider them non-British.

2) 'I do however feel that each country should look after its own....I want England to remain British with the values we lived by years ago'
This, my dear, is called RACISM, Hitler used the very same words against the Jews.

3)'...for not wanting to throw my open arms and welcome every foreigner to these shores, LEGAL or illegal'.
It's pretty clear then that you're not after 'protecting' you beloved country from illegal immigration (which could maybe make a bit of sense), but you're 100% RACIST instead, since you're against the legal foreigners too! And you even ask WHY people call you racist!!!!

You've hit the nail straight on the head my girl, if everybody would think the way you (and me) do maybe things would change. I am not a racist (hell.. I'm half German) but must totally agree with you, please do NOT feel guilty. There are some genuine foreigners who do need our help but then we also got the free loaders who come to Britain because they know they will be looked after. Believe me..you are not alone in your opinion and you are not being naive in thinking the way you do. These days however you're not aloud to make even the smallest comment without being called a racist.

I'm not sure that you can be 'made to feel guilty' without allowing yourself to. Yes, in a so-called democracy, we are all entitled to an opinion. It's about where and how we exercise the right to 'give voice' to them that is the crux of the matter. I think you would agree that there have to be some parameters. I respect your opinion, though I do not necessarily agree entirely with it. You have been reasonable in the way in which you express your opinion. I hope that I. too, have been reasonable in expressing my opinion.

Best wishes, J

Yes we are entitled to an opinion however we don't seem to be allowed to express those opinions as we are likley to end up in court and we are all so worried about offending people and being called racist.

Yes but you aren't allowed to express it - free speech hah.

Personally I don't think immigration is a bad thing. It's allowed our economy to thrive rather than crash and burn as it should be. I personally think people claiming benefits they don't need are causing the problem - and I know this will upset people.

My sister in law has worked the equiv of 1 month since leaving school 8 1/2 years ago. She has 2 kids with my brother. She had a difficult 2nd pregnancy as her weight (14 stone) made carrying the baby a burden. So after her daughter was born she asked for sterilisation (on the NHS of course) - and you think great she's not gonna have more kids they can't afford. Well she started bleeding heavily, she was offered the depo injection to stop the bleeding but she refused as it - Makes you FAT. So she went to the hospital every day for 2 months until they did a full hysterectomy at her request.

Now she's considering suing as she can't have anymore kids. She threatened to leave my brother unless he quit his job to care for her (its no longer the major operation it used to be either) and the kids 'cos she can't cope. Her mam - who claims she's prone to fainting (but has no problems with drinking) and sister (who refuses to take medication for her schizophrenia) and both have never worked either keep telling my sister in law to nag my brother to get loans for stuff.

My mam keeps bailing them out when their benefits etc are late.

People who need help can't get it and immigrants get the blame - its all wrong

Your right you shouldn't but what are British values? Would those be the values of imperialism? of plundering and pilaging half the world and not looking back, of having absolutely no morals and then when your history comes back to haunt you, telling the people you oppressed to fcuk of, good old British values they are terrific aren't they and do not tell me I don't know what I'm on about we managed to get rid of ye 70 years ago only after 800 years of your sh1t

2007-02-20 00:50:59 · answer #9 · answered by Anonymous · 1 3

Ah yes, the values of years gone past. Do you mean racism and empire-building, or the feudal system of governance? Or maybe the days of the plague?

The past is seen through rose-tinted spectacles by those who find the present uncomfortable.
