We think that democracy is the best form of government. Is it? Do the elected rulers truly represent the people? Do the elections really reflect the ground reality? are we not falling prey to regionalism, casteism and linguism? Do you think that a man getting one sixth of the votes in a field of seven candidates is your true representative? Is it correct to allow one individual to be the prime minister or president endlessly without a time limit, however great he is? Are not the parties engineering fragmentation of votes to get their candidates elected?
How many of the five hundred and odd members really get a chance to speak in the parliament? In any case, the parties dictate the voting pattern and kill individual freedom of the members. He has to vote as per the dictat of the party to which he belongs. Is it not a farce? Dont you think that a tacit understanding exists between the parties to not to open corruption cases where their interests are likely to be affected?

Yes, I agree with you. But then who is to be blamed for this sorry state of affairs? It is we who are to be blamed because we don't feel that it is our duty to get ourselves enrolled in the electoral list, don't vote, don't contribute our share to the well-being of society, don't propogate good thoughts and manners. We again never hesitate to pay bribes when it is our turn to get a gas connection, driving license etc. The change should start from us, then only we can expect the elected representatives to behave in a dignified manner.

I hate it when people say the USA is a republic and etc. It's true but why does that mean that the people have to see the faces of the same clowns in the last decade or so? Let me say that we're not the only republic in the world. You also have Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Germany and Australia to mention a few. Our democracy is falling apart and we just don't seem to care. What would happen if every state said they wanted to get rid of the Electoral College or introduce Proportional Representation systems to elect our state and Congressional representatives? If people want a change, start now. Some people are pessimistic and just try to live with the status quo. So, we have a republican form of government but does that mean we shouldn't vote for people we want to represent our interests? Come on, we need to wake up otherwise later on we'll regret it and wish we had done something about it. For U.S. House races, 98% of the incumbents are re-elected and this is very lame. Americans, forget about what the media says about our elections, we deserve to have our vote count towards every race and get money out of the way because it's killing third parties. I'm personally working to try to do something, it's time more Americans cooperate too. Thanks!

In a democracy you have elections. In a real democracy elections are not enough. Also the elected representatives perform the will of the people. The Congress was changed significantly in November 2006. Because the people want an end to Bush's war. Congress has done NOTHING to fulfill their role to perform the will of the people. So, is this a democracy? I think not.

of course democracy is the best form of government at least theres a slim chance the person elected is trying to do the right thing and if they are not then they have to hide the truth, the other option is a dictator that does exactly what he wants without any concern for right or wrong openly.

yes,i think that the present elected representatives behaving like kings, making a mockery of democracy.but this is not the faults of representives,it is the faults of ours, voters.i think that democracy is the best form of government.i request all the voters that do not cast / give your vote to that representatives whose thinking, thoughts, policies, philosophy based on regionalism, casteism and linguism.if we do not cast / give our vote to that representatives whose thinking, thoughts, policies, philosophy based on regionalism, casteism and linguism.then we got true and pure representatives and democracy.and these representatives never behaves like king.

we need something like that.
Freedom is locked in a strait jacket while the noose necked wallabies jump around on the ashes of yesterdays ideas. We need to break those locks on that jacket and swim in the ashes for yesterday.
