difference of pentium 4 and intel duo core 2?

Duo Core 2: Fast Fast Fast Fast, am I not making myself clear?
Pentium 4: 5 year old tech that may have a high GHz but only has 1 core.

Core 2 Duo has lower GHz but is still almost uncomparably faster.

See, dual cores have 2 cores. (Gasp!) Each core takes core of something else, therefore leaving lots of speed for important power-gobbling programs.

"pentium 4" are all single core to where core 2 duo is dual core. The later Pentium 4 processors support HyperThreading, which could almost be compared to dual core but not as powerful by far. With hyperthreading it allows the processor to run a programs thread along with the programs background process threads simultanously, speeding up process time. With dual core you have two unlike processes running simultaneous, benefiting much more b/c XP can utilize SMP (symmetrical multiprocessing) which allows two processors/ or one processor with multiple cores to run with Windows and be fully compatible with Service hosts and kernal files for XP. Core 2 duo also has an onboard memory controller called em64t that allows more memory locations to be addressed and 64bit compatibility with 64 bit programs.

The only weakness like the guy said above me, is that in general the clock speed for the core 2 chips start very low, like 1.4, which is still fine until you get a game that needs at least a 2.0-2.6 and then it would be running a little slow. Now that most games are patched or programmed to support SMP, dual core is getting more powerful for gaming. There is still higher clock speed core2 duo's they are just very expensive for right now..

Something about the intel core due running on less voltage so it doesnt get as hot as pentium 4...
