Your question is very vague. Do you mean as tourists or business travel, legal immigrants, or illegal immigrants?

You must be really young because the modes of transportation are still the same today as they were in the 1970's. The only thing different is the Space Shuttle which was not flying until 1980. And since no one needs to travel into space to enter the US from Mexico this one would not be a logical choice. If you look at the different modes of transportation that is how people from Mexico would enter into the US.

From basic to advanced:

Walking
Swimming around the barriers that jut out into the Pacific Ocean. I do not know if there are the same type in the Gulf as I have never been to that border there.
Horseback
Riding on a horsedrawn wagon
Riding a bicycle
Driving a car
On a boat or ship
Flying an airplane

For future reference, please when asking a question be specific that way you can get the information you desire.
