I have an interview for a job tomorrow and when I told my boss that I need to take some personal time off he looked at me like, "Yes, but why?" So I told him that my roof in my apt is leaking and we're trying to get it taken care of before it rains again. He said, "You live in an apt and they won't take care of it for you?" I explained that it's not an apartment building it's just a nanny apt on someone's house. My landlady is 26 and single so she doesn't have anyone to help her fix things so she can't take care of it for me.
Now all of this is true, except that my roof is not the reason for me leaving tomorrow. Does that sound believable to you or would you be suspicious if you were my boss?

In most places of employment, "personal time" is just that PERSONAL. You should not have to lie/stretch the truth when asking for personal time off. Your boss should not be asking for an explanation. (That is only one person's opinion.)

Yes I would be suspicious, however as the other person stated, taking a personal day off of work should not need to be explained. All the employer needs to know is that for personal reasons you are not going to be at work.

I know it sounds harsh, but legally he cannot require you to divulge what you are doing

does sound kinda far-fetched,but if i was your boss i would think you was just blowon off the day for something, unless you've been saying your'e looking for another job.so hopefully the interview goes well, good luck...then who cares what your boss thinks, unless the new job calls for references...something to think about

it sounds crazy but he'll probably be like "what the ****? whatever" and not think about it anymore because it makes his head hurt.
