Adult fancy goldfish need at least 20 gallons each so you can have 2 of them and maybe some snails or a type of bottom feeder.

Single tailed goldfish like common and comets are pond fish so none would fit in there long term but you could keep a couple in there for a little while if you plan on putting them in a pond within a year.

Strictly speaking, 15 gallons is in simple terms quite acceptable for a million fancy goldfish. regardless of the undeniable fact that, in assessment to this, i think that no goldfish could stay on my own, perhaps get some snails or shrimp to maintain them enterprise, or you are able to overstock (if the fish is in simple terms a million-3 inches in length) via including yet another fancy chum. That way they could have 7.5 gallons of area each and every, although... needless to say, in case you purchase the fish from the puppy keep, then the upward push in goldfish could already be stunted, yet will nevertheless % the area to themselves.

The general rule of thumb is 1 inch of fish per 1 gallon of water. I had 8 goldfish in a 30 gallon tank and ended up with 5 because the other ones died as they got big. They got to be good size. Each one was about 6-8 inches long. I wouldn't get more than 8. If you have too many, they will start dieing off. You can get more tropical fish in a 50 gallon tank because they don't tend to get so big.
I had fancy tails. They were pretty when they got big.

Excuse me, but I consider putting goldfishes in 50 gallon tank a waste of opportunities. Goldfish tend to grow really big, they do not tolerate any tender water plants and they make a lot of feces. You will not be able to arrange decent aqua scenery and you will have to be extra cautious when choosing canister - you need very powerful filtering system. If you insist on having goldfishes, I suppose 6-8 is OK.

On the other hand, 50 gallon can make a very nice cichlid tank or mixed aquarium with tetras, angelfish, labyrinth fishes etc.

2 commons at a push, will get tight when they're full grown. (which would be 12-14" long)
OR
3 fancies should be fine in that for their entire lives (they get to 8-10" long, sometimes can get to 12").

do not keep fancies and commons together. commons grow quicker and will bully the more delicate fancies, possibly damaging their swimbladder which can be fatal. commons will also out-compete fancies for food.

this of course would have to be a 50 gallon LONG tank.

Well it depends on what kind. I would say 3 maybe 4 fancies at the most, they produce alot of waste and get huge.

If they're relatively small goldfish i'd be happy putting about 12 in there. Doesn't sound many but you've got to appreciate that they will grow.

2 single tails or 4 fancies, if you want them to make it to adulthood.

you can put as many as you want when they are small , but you will need a bigger tank when they grow.
