A fascinating documentary, Who Was Moses?, by Jean-Claude Bragard, suggests that the plagues were linked to the eruption of Santorini. The eruption caused which seismic activity which changed the chemical composition of the Nile.
As a result, the river turned blood (a lake in Africa had a similar phenomenon in 1984); the frogs escaped the river because the oxygen was depleted; lack of fresh water led to pestilence; toxic vapors emitted from the river caused blistering and skin lesions;
the fire and hail came from the volcanic eruption.
And even the first born is explained: First born children slept close to the ground as a place of honor; when a large cloud of carbon monoxide swept in, it killed those close to the ground.
