Are region zero (region free) DVD's bootlegs? How can you tell?

no they arent. region 0 just means you can watch it on any dvd player.

and the only way you can tell if a dvd is burned is... if you know what the original casing looks like and the main menu.
and if its bad burn you could just tell from the picture quality.
