I have spent all of my adult life with alcohol. I have a serious problem. I just want to know what one does for fun in sobriety? Please dont say go to meetings. I am asking what a person does with their free time away from their job? I am single, straight male and have no children. Any direction would be appreciated. Thank You!

im a young person i think you are trying to say you can't have fun without alcohol (?) maybe alcohol turns you into a funny lively person but it can be alot of excuses for many things.

im sure you must be a great person, you could find the activities that make you happy and do some hobbies to keep you occupied
in the mean time.do something that you have put off for a long time (travel perhaps?).don't punish yourself with work either.
im sure if you spoke to someone you trust they would not laugh
like you said you are 32 years old single and no kids i can't understand how you feel, maybe disappointed in yourself and drinking is your escape. i know from experience as my father was an alcoholic. but try news things this year who knows a
lovely lady may enter the picture :-) go get em'!!!

I think if you asked half of the alcoholics that question you would find that they continue because of this fun void It is a fantastic question. I am not an alcoholic but do find that when I meet up with my "drinking" buddies there is the need to have a drink with them. Meeting them without this social past time is so bland. I think though that if you want to avoid drinking you could try to stay away from bars (it is no fun drinking alone and at home), you could surf more on the Internet, watch TV, read more, or try to find more to do at home and around the yard (if you have one). In the meantime good luck.

Get a hobby. I work on cars, build computers, download season after season of Smallville..lol. Also volunteering is good, its always a good feeling at the end of the day when u know youve made a difference in someones life for the better, even if you just put a smile on their face. Also just hang out with friends, if u dont have friends make friends, one of the most funnest things to do is meet new ppl. Oh a good one, start working out, i dont mean go balls of the wall and start body building, but working out always makes me feel like i really accomplished something. Hope that helps man.

Find new hobbies. Join a community sports team. Learn to play a musical instrument. Read. Learn woodworking. Restore an old car. Build a remote control airplane. Join Big Brothers. Go to the gym. Adopt a pet and teach him tricks.

When I have free time, I practice my guitar. It's always good to be talented in something. Especially since you're single, it's a good way to get the ladies' attention. You have to find the something that you can do everyday, something you can work on and build. That way, you will always have something to do everyday, be educated about it, and have something to show. I spend the other part of my time playing video games. Man, if you really want to waste time, check out some MMORPGs. There are some free ones.

Well first congradulations. Now you don't have to do anything different, just keep on keepn on. Take all the money your not spending on alcohol and save for a vacation, buy something, you've always wanted but couldn't afford because of the boose tab. Good luck. You'll be happier.

i would take the time to get to know myself better. that way i could figure what direction i would want to take in life. alcoholism runs in my family. so does substanve abuse. rather than aa, i took a course on psychology substance abuse to try and get a better understanding of the disease.

i also took up a lot of reading in the metaphysics area. authors such as james redfield and m. scott peck. it gave me a better understanding of what i wanted for myself with this lifetime.

Good for you for realizing it while you still have your whole life in front of you! Exercise, watch tv, spend time with friends, do Yahoo Answers, read, play videogames ANYTHING but drink.
