Is there a physical benefit to wearing driver gloves? Or is it more phsychological? Or something else?

And what retail outlets see them?

It helps you grip the wheel. Prevents blisters and other skin irritations. They are meant for people who race or go to the track. Any high preformance race shop can usually order you some if they dont have any in stock already.

Grip? Keep yer fingers warm?
I think unless you're driving a race car though or convertible on a cold day you might look like a fool. I know I've laughed at a couple dudes wearing driving gloves for no other reason than to look cool.

I wear one on my right hand when the shifter is hot, but thats it. If drag racing, yes, its fire protection, but you'd need fire resistant boots or shoes too.
