years ago while in England I was told that old money controls the world - assets & money from centuries ago that is held by the old establishment, privately so not on any stockmarket. These hidden people are the true movers & shakers - nice and clandestine but oh so powerful

Money is power, no doubt about that. There are cartels that do control people and product, i.e. the gold cartels, the oil cartels, etc. There is no one group/club of moneyed people who meet to control the world. This is just another one of those conspiracy theories. However, every country and city has its wealthy individuals and corporations and they are tax payers, so they do have a say-so in things. Birds of a feather flock together, so maybe that is how these rumors get started. The rich all live in the same neighborhoods and vacation at the same spots, etc.

yes, it takes three generations to go through wealth..
the first one makes it
the second one spends it
and the third one loses it..Chinese proverb
but that's not true as look at the Kennedy's?
also in the Philippines the wealth is controlled by a small amount of people..families..cronys..corruption all the way to the Malignant Palace..I was raised in this type of environment in Forbes Park..thank God my parents were all wealthy and could educate me and my brother..sent us abroad for education and now I am a psychologist ..still living at my homestead of my mother..lol..lots of helpers..but I digress
Yes, old wealth does control the people and who gets advanced and who don't...it is almost impossible to get ahead in the Philippines unless you know somebody or are somebody..

Money is powerful. Rich families like monarchies have lots of power in different countries. That is old money so in that instance it is power.

Further, in Australia for example, convicts were gifted land when their sentence finished. Their families are some of the richest in Australia and thus the most influential because of their inheritance.
