I mean, what if we knew what everyone on here looked like, their age, their gender, their occupation- how much would it change how seriously we take their answer? Would we choose, for a best answer, the person with a P.hd, despite the fact that a twelve year old kid provided an answer just as, maybe even more, informational than you were looking for?

Great question...the answer is a simple one...they may all mean nothing. It is who we trust. A title may look good, but does the advice make sense to us. Does this person relate to me on a personal level?...if they do, then the other stuff is a secondary concern.

If I were younger I probably would not have been here answering this question. Likewise, when I was young, only the pretty and self assured impressed me. People with degrees and learning intimidated me. However, I held my own, I believe am very popular and liked and loved. When I read the answers I am inclined to focus on the answers and seldom imagine who the person is that forwarded it. I do feel some 'warmth' coming through in some answers, and lots and lots of patronising.

Is this our future? Committing ourselves to a screen and keyboard without reaching out to others? Are we going to prefer faceless, genderless, cyber conversations (similar to these) to one-on-one in-depth talks over a meal and a glass or wine? Is this our new way of reaching out to others? Formerly we had family structures to fall back on.

In the same breath I dare add that some days I prefer to be alone. Somehow, I always end up with the pc. I can make tea without excusing myself, go to the toilet, have a telephone conversation, go to the shop, everything at my own convenience and time and without having to excuse myself to my cyber guest. Is that what it's about????

As for all the one-line jokers on serious issues - empty vessels certainly do make the most noise.

EXCELLENT QUESTION!!!!

YES. the answer is definately yes. good question that can prove something.

age- people in their 30s and above would only trust people in their 30s and above.

gender- the person asking would trust the same gender. we know MOST peoples genders i hope lo,

ethnicity- id say most minorities (in the US, non whites) would not b taken as serious by white people. but some religions would also be hated on

i think we know some information, but obviously people can lie.

Indeed you are so right! Good question. I believe most of the people are sitting around bored out of their skulls in a life that is lived in quiet desperation. Most of the people like Donald Trump and Bill Gates don't have time for this waste of their resources....time. But there are some smart people her for different reasons..probably bored..but some are seekers of the truth and some/most? just for a cheap thrill. Whatever I think of this as a harmless diversion and I am glad I can't see most of these people as they are probably all sitting around in their unmentionables with a thick growth of hair on their faces?men
and belching..drinking etc etc very few Phd's probably more immature unstable people like myself..lol..Have a nice day?
