Sometimes in life, we all have to make sacrifices that will hurt somebody now, but will eventually reward them.

For example, if you're hurting someone or bringing down their dreams because they love you and want to stay with you....
some would pretend not to love them anymore so they could live their drems because that person would be 'happier'.

It's silly, but it happens.
If anyone has any better examples...please say

Here's an example!

I have a horrible singing voice. If I were insane enough to have the dream of going on American Idol, my friends might "have to be cruel to be kind" by sitting me down, telling me gently that I don't have the voice for it and would only be humiliated, and that I shouldn't do it. It might seem cruel because it initially hurts to hear the truth, but in the long run it would be kind because it would save me from a bigger hurt.

To have to do something unpleasant that is going to, in the long run, help.
