Dany Heatley suffered a broken orbital bone while playing hockey in Europe during the lockout. It does look strange but it must be real because players must have at least some vision in both eyes to be allowed to play.
The eye has nothing to do with the car accident that claimed the life of his friend and teammate Dan Snyder.
The Sens are doing fantastic right now! Check out TSN's power rankings (tsn.ca) they are ahead of Buffalo!

The national hockey league does not allow players to play if they have lost complete vision in one eye. They have a minimum requirement for eye vision, in order to play.
I know of at least one player who was drafted by the buffalo sabres a while back hoping that the NHL would reconsider the rule but it has never been changed.
The above stories about Dany Healty getting into a wreck are true, and Dan Synder is the team mate who lost his life due to Heatly's tragic incident.
However, Heatly's eye damage actually has nothing to do with this incident, but he did break his orbital bone playing oversees during the lockout, and that is why his left eye looks "weird".
Since then Healty has been traded to the sens, but he DOES meet the minimum eye requirements and DOES not have a glass eye.
Berard had a serious incident in Toronto (where I am from) where he was hit in the eye and ALMOST lost it, ALMOST ending his career. He never returned to the ice for Toronto but did revitilize his career else where. He currently plays for Columbus Blue Jackets.

NHL rules do not allow a player to play if they've lost complete vision in one eye. The minimum is 20/400.
Many years ago, the Sabres wasted a pick on a guy hoping the NHL would change the rule. They did not.
In reading about Berard (see camaro's comment above):
"During the next season, he underwent seven eye operations, improving his vision in the eye to 20/600. He started working out again in April 2001 and started skating again months thereafter. He was later fitted with a contact lens that allowed him to meet the league's minimum vision requirement of 20/400."

No, he has both eyes. The crash broke his leg I believe as well as causing some other injuries. I don't think that it would be easy for a player to have one eye. There is a lot of peripheral movement. He may have a congenital neurological tick. My brother has that, which causes one eye to droop a bit. Certainly isn't a problem for Heatly. Great player.

No, but he had some damage to his eye muscles when he got in that bad car wreck that killed Dan Snyder, so his eyelid droops.
If he had a glass eye, he wouldn't meet the NHL's vision requirements. Remeber, Bryan Berard couldn't play when he was almost blinded in one eye, until a bunch of surgeries and special contact lenses got him up to the required vision levels. (And incidentally, Berard has a droopy eyelid too.)

dany heatley was in a very serious automobile wreck a couple of years ago in which one of his team mates died and dany was never suppose to be able to play hockey again due to the severe injuries he received to his legs but i never heard them mention anything about his eyes.i would think it would be very hard to play such a fast paced sport with one eye. dany heatley is one of the best players in the nhl, even though he plays for the senators

He was hit in the eye with a puck while playing in Bern, Switzerland during the lockout. He didn't lose his eye but it is permanently dilated, which is why it looks odd.

It would be very hard to play with one eye, but Bryan Berard plays with basically one. No thanks to Mr.Hossa. As for The Heat, he just has an dark coloured eye which matches his pupil.
