Last night ,I noticed my fantail gold , having fungus on it's head. I placed the fish in a isolation tank and dropped in a few drops of anti fungal liquid. This morning , i found it floating .

What could have caused this ?

did the fungus look kind of cottony? that is a bacteria called flexibactor columnaris -- aren't you glad you asked? it is in most water and ready to prey on a fish when it gets a little sick. you can treat it with antibiotics.

fish don't get fungus diseases very often and when they do it looks like slime.

it could be the water quaility, such as temperature, ph, tap not being conditioned, i remember i placed my fan tail into a new fishbowl, and she was healthy, despite the fact that she just healed from ick a few days before, i was changing her into a new bowl and I guess the move from a warm tank to a little bit cooler tank killed her. T_T i read that goldfish liked cooler water so i adjusted the tank two to three degrees cooler and she still died.

im sorry about your fan tail, if you still have the water you can go to the pet store and get it tested. or the fungus already spreaded way to much for medications.

He may have been to far gone by the time you put him in the other tank or the water temp was way to different in the new tank.
