It works very awkardly, as is the Sony way.
To access the internet on a PSP, (which is free by the way), you will need to be within a wireless access point's range, (usually anything up to 500 metres), and then do the following:
1. Scroll down to "Network Settings".
2. Select Infrastructure Mode, (this can also be done within several other locations, including "Network Update" and "Internet Browser", I'm just specifying I-mode as it's the most memorable place to do it.
3. Select New Connection.
4. Select "Scan".
5. You should see the details of any wireless access points in range, select your device.
6. Follow the process through, remember to enter your security key if you have one, (WEP/WPA/WPA2/WKA).
7. Save the settings, and then do a connection test, (settings are saved to the PSP, not your memory card).
If done correctly, you will now be able to play Infrastructure mode enabled games, download firmware updates, and browse the internet, (keep in mind it won't be anywhere near as good as browing the internet on a PC with IE), also, it's Java compatability, (as well as Flash), is very limited.
