I wish to terminate my mobile contract after the minimum term. I've called the mobile company to terminate it, and they require 1 month to notice, and I think that is fair. However, it seems like no tracking/reference number has been given for the request I made. Is that normal? Or should I officially write to them?

i would say it was written in the contract that you had to give one month, fair has nothing to do with it. one month, or at least until the end of the billing cycle is a normal practice. they probably did not give you a number because nothing to give. call them is better than writing them. writing them it is gonna end up with some punk who just laughs shows it to his coworkers, and then in the trash.

Companies don't normally give you a tracking/reference for terminating contracts. Also, many companies are extremely bad at actually carrying out the termination.

Your best bet is to write to the company explaining. They tend to ask for these in the first instance, but some do not. This, in my past experience, has been the best way to get them to pay attention as such.

If you pay the bill by standing order or Direct Debit get it cancelled by your bank. Tell the company you are doing so, that way they should not continue to bill you.

Usually you have to pay for the rest of the contract with a mobile phone, so it is rather difficult to get out of it.

In the contract terms it states that you should give the mobile phone operator 1 months written notification to terminate contract. If you don't they could consider this as an acceptance of a new contract.

Hi I had the same problem, some mobile phone companies will still bill you the line rental until the end of the contract. Write to them requesting to terminate it but if they still bill you call them and tell them you want to be put on the lowest tariff, or I did manage to change the tariff to pay as you go but you will need to activate the new Sim card they send you other wise you will still get billed.

With T Mobile you can cancel the contract one month before the end of it by a phone call.
I had some trouble with BT Mobile. I called them to cancel the contract and they said it was OK, but they took money from account for 3 months and i had to ring many times to do that to stop the direct debit. Then it was cancelled and got 3 months refund.
