Any suggestions? I've been thinking of just giving him Boni, but of course, you might have other names in mind that would sound better... thanks!

I'd stick with just Boni. Otherwise he will have to tell everyone (teachers, friends, doctors etc.) what he prefers to be called (I was given a longer version name of what my parents wanted me to be known as and it gets annoying pretty quickly. I used to dread getting a new teacher as i'd have to speak up in class and explain I went by a nickname).

Boni is perfectly fine on it's own. My only concern is that it's basically Bonnie spelled differently, which is a girls name and could lead to teasing.

Only longer name I could find was Boniface or Bonifacy but i personally don't like these at all! How about Boone, Booth, Bono or Booker? These were the only similar names I could find.

When he turns adolescent, BONI will NOT be a good name. What an opportunity for a tease festival.

I do have a friend from the Cameroons called BONNY which is short for Bonaface. This guy is 1) exceptionally funny and 2) a very good soccer coach ... so nobody teases him.

It doesn't matter what nickname you might have in mind, often the people around you will create their own nicknames for your child, particularly when they go to school. Even if you called you child Boni, it might get shortened to Bon. Call your son what you wish, nickname him what you wish. I'm afraid you can't control the people around you and some people delight in using a nickname for your child that either you or you child or both dislike. And this is from experience. Family members can often be the worst culprits.

Boni = Bony or Bonnie?

Both are bad ideas.

first of all...why on earth would you want your son to be called Boni? if you want him to be called that for whatever reason then just name him that. like someone else already said...people will call him what they want to. they wont call him by something just because you want them to...and what if he doesnt like the name. he'll have them call him something else.
