Get use to it. They get mad because the focus is not on them. Some white people feel that the universe should revolve around them. they feel every moment and every bit of energy should be expended discussing them. Notice if you deviate for a second to discuss any other culture they will get upset and start to complain that they are being discriminated against. Other peoples equality is an infringement on their rights.
of course not all white people are this way but it is a mind set which is prevalent among the type of individuals you're talking about. I wouldn't sweat it to much. Just remember we have continually prevailed in spite of it. up from slavery -- through the civil rights movement and we will continue moving forward regardless.
Remind your self that contemporary bigotry is a cake walk by comparison. If your ancestors suffered beatings, lynchings, mutilation then these complaints about black history month are mild in comparison, and a reflection that the society has experienced some growth in this area.
pay attention to the type of responses you get. Notice that the most uninformed ones are also the most racist. This is a reflection that the more educated a person is the less likely it is that they are racist. This is good because people with high levels of education (white or any other race). Are the ones most likely to be in a position to influence things.

If white people are so upset about Black History Month, then how about teaching black history along with white history in the school curriculum through out the year. If it is truly "equal", then teach our history right beside that of white people and there will be no need for black history month because our history will be taught 12 months out of the year instead of 1. All races have made great contributions to our society. However we live in a society where we as blacks are a minority so we have the odds stacked against us in a sense so when we do accomplish a great feat, it is focused on more because there are many more whites in America than blacks especially with higher positions. As for Vonhugens, you sound really racist with your comments. And please do not think that there are not many whites out robbing, killing, and maybe even worst. However the media will constantly show the black acts of violence and down play the ones committed by whites. Who runs the media. White people. So we will see what they want us to see. But lets not forget about the crimes that whites commit., Every race has good and bad people.

It is the ignorance and of some people that gets in the way of celebrating black history month in a wholly good way. Not that it's the same thing, but if you were to work long and hard for a company for many years, wouldn't it be nice to be appreciated? We all need to look at facts and appreciate. Not THAT way back, black people were slaves. They worked at jobs that many of them would never have chosen for themselves. The first of them were yanked from their homes and all that they knew to do all the dirty work for people that didn't even have the humanity to ask or treat them like human beings.
In later years, they still fought only to have the same respect and regard as everyone else. The right to choose, vote, sit and eat where they want to, live the way they want to, etc.
We have this month of celebration because it is due and right that we all know how things actually happened and how strong anyone would have had to be to change things.
White people don't need white history month simply because white people have been celebrating all along. White people have not been discriminated against in the same ways or on the same scale.
Ok, so no one around today is responsable for the past, this is true but in order for us to ensure a future together that includes respecting all, acknowledging all without worrying about racism, we have to first bring to light why it exists to lay it rest.

Look at the way the history is taught in Black History Month and then at the way your supposed "White History the Other 11 Months".
The blacks in Black History month are worshipped and seemingly lorded over whites.
Black history is still taught as part of "the other 11 months", and the whites are given no special prestige or mentioned if they were white or not.
In short, Black History Month actively encourages blacks to have pride - whites don't have any event like that - just a bland mention in a textbook without saying what significance it has to do with white culture.

They shouldn't. Black History Month is to remind all of us of important truths that otherwise would have been relegated to obscurity. I am NOT one of these academic types who runs around spouting diversity this and politically correct that. However, I'm observant enough to see that American culture has been enriched by the presence of our African-American brothers and sisters. White young people need to know that being black in America is about much more than gangstas, rapping, grills, 22s and bone-jarring bass. Likewise, black young people need to know that we all need them to take the baton from those who went before and made great sacrifices to create a better life for their children and grandchildren.
::EDIT:: Yes, "Rodney King," filthy gutters do exist, but you're not required to spend ALL of your time crawling in them. Music (blues, jazz, gospel, the origins of rock), high-quality entertainment, soul food, warm fellowship, contributions to science, medicine and the arts, and an inspiring history of struggle to emerge from oppression and become an integral part of a free society. I am not a liberal (I've never even voted for a democrat). However, I do try to build up and encourage people toward positive behavior, rather than dwelling on their faults and tearing them down. We ALL need the black community to thrive. It's in your best interest as well as theirs.

some white people think that we never contributed to the american society, when infact, the black people worked for the white man. (either worked in feilds or cooking and cleaning in the house). why do you need white history month? we see your people every where you turn. this might sound racist, but i'm not.

I get upset about it because of the inaccuracies and lies that are taught. America is white history. We founded and developed this country. Giving an ethnic group their own history month should be degrading to that group. Do you realize why we celebrate it? And a white teacher means nothing, as liberals come in all colors.

Why is there no White History month?--- or even any "True History Month"?. We are (by law) prohibited from discriminating by race.- Why are there quotas, and why is there "Affirmative action" (which is discriminating by race). Don't you see that the whole mess is another lie disguised as the truth?
