I think it's a pipe dream, and how they were installed as 3rd favourites, i think is an insult to peoples intelligence.
If i was a bookmaker, i would have taken ANY bets against them even progressing to the semi-finals.
I feel England have always had a defensive mentality, and are happy not to loose, as opposed to thinking like winners, then there's the thing about having 'great' talent. Finally, how can you win at the highest level, if you can't keep the ball, and we have a very average skill base, that results usually in two extremes a) a back pass, or b) a 40yrd pass, which is effectively a 50/50 ball. I believe you can play attractive % football, unfortunately we just cannot execute it.....

Not in South Africa in 2010 as they don't play well away from Europe.(or England for that matter). If they can become the hosts of a Cup they might have a chance.

My sentiments exactly. England will never win the World Cup in my lifetime. We are forever hearing about this so-called golden generation. It's crap. It's just hype created by the media, both newspapers and the TV companies. Sure, we have one or two players who can do spectacular things occasionally but we seem unable to satisfactorily pass a ball. We need to learn to walk before we attempt to run.
Also, with the vast amounts of money being poured into the game, we need to ensure this reaches the grass roots instead of being siphoned off in wages, agents' fees, etc.
Before last World Cup I was called a traitor by several people for daring to suggest England were going to fail spectacularly. Strangely, these are the very same people that are now screaming for McClaren's head. I do not believe this is the answer.
Successive governments must accept their share of the blame. They are happy to jump on the bandwagon when things are going well yet they continue to close down playing fields and even sell off the grounds of lower league clubs in order to raise money through housing. This applies to other sports as well as football. Furthermore, we keep hearing about obesity amongst children, crime and so on. Perhaps if kids had places to go and play sports we'd solve many of society's problems as well as producing tomorrow's stars. And we might even have a chance of winning something.

I don't mind the English but when you lot complain about how good your team is and how good a player is i.e. beckham and THEN you do the opposite when things are going wrong it is truelly sickening. Take steve mc claren for example. the man has been in the job a number of months and he was being called for the sack. international managers need more time than league team managers because they don't work with the team as much. as soon as you england fans wake up and see this the better it will be. oh and i'm a republic of ireland fan but you don't see me complaining with how things are going. sure it could be better but every team has their ups and downs and staunton needs time. you don't seem like a bad man incase you think i was directing this at you lmao. was just speaking about the majority of the fans so sorry if you thought i was directing this at you lmao.

I hope they can win it. They're the sport creators, it would seem fitting if they win. However, being realistic, I doubt it. There are a lot of teams that are better than England in Europe, and then there's the rest of the World. But, good luck to them; hope they can make a difference.

I think England have a good chance of winning the world cup because they have a huge number of world class number but unfortunately they are not lucky to reach their goal.

But I'd like to see them win the next one.

Thanx!

England wont win another Cup unless they get rid of the long ball. Brazil, Argentina, Italy and maybe Portugal have ball control offenses and will win future World Cups. But the US is getting strong every year and will win it soon. GO USA!

Well...is it really any wonder England never win anything with so many people like you around?!!!
We have to believe in ourselves.People like you and some of the Media just undermine that. On our day we can beat anyone anywhere. ...Of course we can win the World Cup,and I believe one day we will.

I would like to see England win it in my lifetime but sadly i dont see that happening. They will have to change their style of play to compete with passing attack of some other nations.

I cant see it happening myself, I think we pay far too much money for so so players who spend most of their time off with minor injuries. Watching them play is like watching a cartoon. No talent whatsoever!
