As others have stated, oven safe does not necessarily mean microwave safe. There is a very simple test you can use to determine if anything is microwave safe. Place a measured cup of water in the microwave and the item along side. Set the timer for 1 minute and turn it on. At the end of the time if the object is hot and the water is cold or only slightly warm, you do not want to use it in the microwave. If the item is warm or slightly warm and the water is warmer, you can use it for cooking for short duration warm ups under 2 minutes. If the water is hot and the item is cold you can use it without any restrictions.

Most bowls that are oven-proof are fine for the microwave, unless they are metal or have metal decor. However, a microwavable bowl is quite often NOT oven-proof (like plastic, of course!). I have a pair of coffee mugs that look perfectly ok, but have a bit of gold decoration on them, and the one (and ONLY!!!) time I put one of them in the microwave, I got a fireworks show! If you get a similar reaction, it's not the end of the world - just stop the oven and put your food into something else.

Crockery pots like bean pots are created by baking in a kiln so they are oven proof..

The problem is that pottery made in foreign countries do not have the same mineral or metal content guidelines in the clay as America does.

If you put it in the Microwave for 30 seconds or so and it gets hot, it has lead in it and is not for microwave use. I believe I read that the lead can leach out into the food.

So yes it probably should say microwave safe on the label.

Not necessarily. It depends on what's it made of. If it has any kind of metal, you can't use it in the microwave oven. If it's a ceramic bowl, then I guess it could be used. It's obviously not plastic, so let's not go there.

stainless steel is oven safe but not recomended for microwave. Get the idea?

It just may be safe. many just average dishes are safe if used properly but unsafe if not.

In general, yes. However anything other than ceramic or pyrex glass should be used with caution. Check that neither has any metalic design
or contituent part before using
