Biological washing powder has enzymes in which increase it's effectiveness on tough stains. I use biological for things which need tough stains removing or need to be cleaned throughoughly such as gym kit, towels, bedding etc.

I avoid using it for smalls and delicates though because the enzymes may damage tough fabrics and can also upset the delicate balance for women wearing the smalls in question! It's also advisable to wash baby and small children's clothes in non-bio too as their skin is more likely to be sensitive to the enzymes.

Enzymes. This history of washing powder. 1. All washing powder was non-biological. 2. Some bright spark discovered that adding enzymes made the clothes that bit cleaner and they were added to all washing powders. 3. Quite a few people had allergic reactions, so non-bios were reintroduced. My advice - try what's ever on special offer until you find one you like.

biological washing powders affect, and try to destroy chemicals in and on clothing, so should not be used on items such as water proof coats as it removes the chemical on the outside that is placed there as a water proofer, where as non - bio is a safe washing powder to use on any material as it causes no damage to anything, allthough, it does not clean as thoroughly as biological. i only know this as im a detail advisor to Nike international.

biological powders contain enzymes which help to break down stains in biological stains (blood, sweat etc.). Non bio doesn't contain them. Some people are sensitive to the enzymes in bio powder.
