Overpopulation is the consequence of poverty -- not the other way around. In poor countries, the population growth rate is high for a number of reasons.

1. Lack of access to medical knowledge and technology, such as birth control.

2. More importantly, though, is that those children are planned! If you are poor and don't access to a pension plan, the best way to plan for your old age is to have lots of kids. Unfortunately, the losts of kids then leads to hundreds of grandkids, etc.

So, the developed world should be providing more information about birth control. But, more importantly, we should be helping their economies become more viable, which will lower poverty rates and birth rates.

Overpopulation is NOT the cause of hunger in anywhere in the world. There is plenty of food in the world to feed everyone to obesity, and still have some left over. The problem that causes hunger is political corruption and incompetence, and war. These two factors prevent food supplies from reaching the people who need it.

As far as overpopulation in general is concerned:
People who live in poor, rural areas have a tendency to have more children than those who are urbanized, educated and successful. So I guess attacking poverty is the best way to tackle overpopulation.

We have already done that we have a neg. birth rate in the US and most of the free world. Liberals were scared out of having babies a long time ago. the Left and Public schools teach the scare tactic. Liberals don`t have kids and when they do it is only 1 and no more than 2. Many adopt a puppy to control that mothering need. You see it in SF all the time. Abortion is a handy answer for them too it is easier than giving birth. To have to more than 2 is evil. Those d** Mennonites. You can even see all this in the answers given to your question here and now. Watch a Hollywood movie with a woman giving birth. The actress goes through tremendous agony and terrifying screams. This is all in an attempt to frighten young women out of the very thought of having a baby. Of course it is no where near reality of actually giving birth. The third world , the poor world, is making babies as fast as they can and they are coming here. 1000 a day across the Arizona border alone. They will displace you with in 10 years. That is what you really need to worry about.
