Well, a chip is just a little piece of something. Like a wood chip and a ice chip. So a chocolate chip is just a little piece of chocolate.

no love chips are more than just chips that u eat, u can have lots of chips, like when u break a stone the small pieces are called chips and so are small bits of chocolate..duh

A chip can also mean a small piece, (like a chip off the old block). Mind you it would be better if the choc chips were the size of chips wouldnt it?

Because it is cheaper to drip chocolate than it is to have a guy sit and chip bits of chocolate off of a bar.
And "chocolate drip" cookie doesn't have a good ring either.
