as the Oscars are voted on by actors, directors etc...
it is just an award show about patting each other on the back.....
I think the better show is the People's Choice Awards because they are voted on by the people....

It's the ultimate recognition of mainstream films. As entertainment encompasses film, TV, sport, music, books, magazines and games among many, many other things (isn't sex entertainment?), there can be no one true recognition of "entertainment" as a whole.
But I reckon it's Oscars for the mainstream, Cannes for film-making and the MAN Booker for literature. My biggest problem with the Academy awards is that the statues are not necessarily awarded on merit, but often take into account a range of other things, such as politics, lifelong achievements and past failures.

At one time yes, but nowadays its just a matter of who can pay out the most money to the members of the academy or promise them stuff so they will vote for your particular movie or star.
Did you know that on the Walk of the Stars, if you can get your fan club to come up with $10,000 they will put a star on the walk? It used to be you earned that star by doing something outstanding in the motion pictures. Its all about money nowadays and what one can do for the other. Its all very phoney I won't even watch the stupid show anymore. Let them wallow in their own egos.

Not really. Many of good films do not get oscar, it does not mean they are not good.It is just a recognition.
