I've been using tampons now for about half a year and it still hurts quite a bit to insert them. I've tried twisting slightly and different positions, forcing myself to relax. It doesn't help. Why is this?
I'm also worried that as I'm a virign, when it comes to the first time it's going to hurt even more if even something as small as a tampon is difficult!
Please help.

Mine hurt the first times too.
Don't worry that you're a virgin it makes no difference.
Maybe try the Lil lets gel comfort tampons - I still use them now they're so easy to insert.
Try this:
Sit on the loo and spread your legs insert the tampon as far as you can (maybe you're not inserting it far enough) Don't worry it won't get lost, it has to stop. You should have about 1 -1,5 inches string hanging down.
If this doesn't work then try squating on the foor and inserting it the same way.
Don't give up, if necessary go to the Dr or use pads until you feel comfy again.
There's no pressure. Just relax and take your time - if you're really worried talk to your Mum or anyone that you can trust.

** Make sure you always use the smallest size tampons for health and effectiveness**

Good luck darl! x

A properly inserted tampon will never hurt. In fact you should not be able to feel it at all. A lot of girls dont use tampons until they are sexually active, it's a lot easier to stick to towels until then. If you really want to continue trying tampons then make sure you are pushing them towards the base of your spine ( up and back ) and always use the lowest absorbancy.

Having sex for the first time can be very uncomfortable and painful. But only briefly, dont worry about it too much, the key is to be relaxed.

It's possible that you're not leaving them in the right position, which makes them really uncomfortable. Make sure you push them as far back towards your spine as you can - you shouldn't feel them when you walk around.

If it's only the insertion that's hurting, it's possible that a) you have a sensitive vagina (nothing to be done) b) you're not lubricated enough (try only using them for your heaviest days until you're comfortable) or c) because you're still a virgin, your vagina is still partialy obstructed by your hymen - if this is the case, don't try to fix it by yourself!

It sounds like you're still pretty anxious about using them if you have to "force yourself to relax" - some girls just get nervous about tampons (even after they've had sex). If this is the case, maybe after you've just had a shower or bath, before you dry yourself off, ledge one foot on the toilet/bath (with the other on a nice dry bathmat or towel) and just do it. If that doesn't work, it may just have to be pads for a while. Good luck!

P.S. Yes, sex is probably going to hurt the first time. You'll get over it, trust me ;)

The tampon size that you are using could be the problem. The kind I used to use when I used them was OB. The thing I liked about them is that I didn't have to worry about cardboard applicators.

And sometimes when I would get dry because of trying to insert the tampon I would try to lubricate the area which seemed to help along with inserting the tampon along my one finger.

BTW, I'm a virgin also.

I no longer use tampons due to medical reasons unrelated to tampons.

I would recommend talking to your dr for suggestions on how to deal with this and to be on the safe side.

You know, like most things not everything works for everyone! If using tampons makes you uncomfy, try something else. There are quite a few things other than tampons and towels. Have a look for the Moon Cup in Boots and other good chemists. Maybe ask your GP surgery nurse for advice on what else is out there. Tampons are not the most hygenic thing to use anyway so I wouldnt force myself to get used to them if I were you.

ok! do no longer difficulty, I had countless difficulty and confusion once I first began utilising tampons besides! it incredibly is recommended to attempt the small length, there are all categories of manufacturers accessible! you in basic terms have been given to test with some distinctive varieties... approximately putting it in, i might communicate on your mom? in easy terms by using fact i'm confident it would be extra basic explaining it in individual! What helped me lots have been the guidelines in the container! Haha i'm hoping this helped you extremely(: Oh and p/s i like the playtex tampons, they arrive in countless sizes and so as that they've playtex game tampons which i think of could be best for you! solid success woman!

Firstly, I never use tampons on the first or last day of my period as it's quite light on those days and hurts (due to it being too dry inside). I don't use them during the night when I'm asleep either. Also, make sure you put it in far enough, as it can hurt if you don't, don't worry about it going "too far", it can't. As long as there's enough string left to pull it out thats fine.
You also need to get used to "which way" to push it in, every woman is different. Don't rush, take your time and don't force it in.

Try using the smallest size at first just until you get used to it. That could also be a reason, for example if you are using the super size you may only need the regular (this isn't to do with size but how light or heavy your period is). Also, how often do you change them, maybe you change them too often? This would mean everytime you take one out and replace it you could be too dry which hurts. Don't worry about leaving them in for a long time, there is a guidline on the packet. My niece had this problem last year, she was worried about leaving them in for too long and was changing them far too much, she's got used to it now though.

If you try all this and it still hurts just be patient, you just need to get used to it. I was the same as you when I first started using them. I could whip one out and a new one in with my eyes shut now, lol!!!

As for you being a virgin, when the time comes trust me you wont be worrying about it hurting, as long as it's with someone special. And all the same principles apply, don't rush and with a little practice it gets better! ;-)
Be safe x

Maybe you should try a smaller size!Iv been using them for years and even sometimes now if i dont get them in correctly thay can feel very uncomfortable! If you are using the ones without an aplicator they can be more tricky so i would definatly recommend using the ones with an aplicator. Also try inserting it when you are in a sitting position on the toilet rather than standing up straight x

Try using pads for a while. You're suppose to use pads occasionally but few women do once on tampons. Al;so make sure you have the mini sized ones. You could try different applicators like compac as they are softer and slide easier. It may hurt if you have sex but if you're with the right person they will be gentle and considerate to reduce the pain.

Make sure you're inserting it at the right angle. It tells you the angle it needs to be at in the paper inside the tampon box. If that doesn't help, if your hymen is still intact, it may be thicker than normal, which might explain it being painful to insert the tampon. Other than that, I don't really know. If anything, you could go to your doctor and see what's up.
