Your dogs are hunting dogs, guinea pigs are too much like rabbits. I can't quite see that your guinea pig a future at your home. I had that situation. GP was scared to DEATH. I think it was a heart attack.

It sounds like it would be good if you approached the situation carefully and slowly, but remember that Goldens are retrievers for a reason . . . they were bred as hunting retrievers, so don't be totally surprised if it doesn't work out like you want. There are many people who make it work though. One idea might be to only introduce one of the dogs (I'd try the older one first) to the piggy at a time. That way the piggy isn't overwhelmed, and the older of the two dogs can lead the younger one too, Plus, the older will most likely have a more mellow (and therefore, non threatening) disposition.

Good luck

i had a big dog and a hamster aswell as a guinea pig. usually big dogs will b nice to them. it may b kind of scary at first..my dog used to try and pick up the hampster, never biting down, just sort of nudging it, not causing pain, he would always just play with it and bathe it. if the dogs r nice then u shouldent have much of a problem..cats on the other hand can b mean. dont mix cats and rodents.

have them both together in a room and have the pig out and teach the dogs to b nice to it.

also i advise u, dont make it ur main goal to make the pig and dogs friends with it as soon as u get it..have the pig in the cage and treat it like a normal pet and have the dogs look at it and get used to it before u try any "bonding"

i just got my first guinea pig. when we brought her home, my lab/whippet mix fell in love! it was love at first sight. dog goes to the cage or exercise pen when the guinea pig squeaks. they are nose to nose through the bars. i think it helps that my dog knows i am boss. the dog also loves our house rabbit, they sleep together. don't forget that your dog must be very obedient. if your dogs can get along with cats, then it will probably be fine. the guinea pig should be kept in a quiet room, like maybe your bedroom. that's where we keep Dharma (guinea pig) when she's not out for exercise. the other pets are not aloud to go in there.you must also be in the room with dogs and guinea pig every second that they are in the same room. better safe than sorry.

handle the guinea pigs while petting the dog. talk to both of them to show the dog that the pig is loved too, and a pal. introduce them CAREFULLY so you can monitor and problems. retrievers are smart, and can figure out what u are teaching.

Not really, it would go by the dog's nature. If the dog and calm but pretty playful, then it may be dangerous but it should be fine. It could very well be a problem... but give it a try. Just keep an eye on the lil thing! ;) good luck.

Sure if they don't eat the Guinea Pig first!
