In some cases, I would have to agree with your assessment with some with their minds slowing down after 60 years of age. One case would be Ronald Regan.
However, as a whole this is not always the case. Can you tell me that Clint Eastwood (76 years of age) and William Shatner (75 Years of age) minds are slowing down?
This is a myth that after 60 years of age, it is all over for the mind for everyone. If you keep active, excise your body and mind, you can be an useful member of society. Clint Eastwood still works out everyday and William Shatner has written books and keeps himself challenged.
People in Government sectors only retire because it is in their contract. Many firms move people out with this reasoning. I feel that many could still do their jobs reasonably well .
It is my opinion that no one should be forced to retire unless they are no longer physically and mentally do it.

Almost the entire Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha will have to retire because majority of the members in these houses have crossed their fifties and they enjoy to ruin the life of the common people. They never want the new generation to come to power and take the initiative to make the country grow economically. They just want to benefit for them and let the country go to hell. If an age limit for retirement is set how will they burn and earn at the cost of the country. The supreme court judge is a Government Servant so has to retire anyways. The politicians are the Government and not the servants, this is the logic.

Retirement age has nothing to do w mental capacity. Folks will choose to retire at or around those ages because by then most have accumulated enough service to receive full pension, & Social Security benefits are available at age 62 or older depending on the desires of the citizen collecting benefits.
To suggest even jokingly , that they have deficiencies in thought or reason at that age is just ridiculous & disrespectful besides. (no I am not that age either)
As for elected officials (politicians as you call them) they have a right to serve this country just as a person in their twenties does. In addition to that the number of senior citizens in the US is at an all time high & growing.........maybe some of them would like to have a more mature person in office to look after issues of concern to seniors.

You are wrong. The function of Mind does not go slow. That is the reason why politicians do not retire even in the age of 80.

I for one understand your question. I agree that most politicians should have a mandatory retirement after serving 1-2 terms. This would get fresh ideas in politics instead of the same old same old.

Perhaps, in-line with the rest of the Government, a politician should be retired from service at the end of the term their twentieth year of service comes on?

Anybody having the right to vote have the right to get elected and participate in politics. One will have to take away the voting rights from aged people before they are denied the right to get elected to the legislatures.

Staff has to do physical work/ leg work. Neta Ji has to do mental work. Mental work has nothing to do with age. Old is GOLD.
