I like my Jag, but keep being told by cynics that it's an 'old man's car'!
Should I have to drive a Corsa, Saxo or similar hatchback because I'm in my 20s? If you think I should be driving something else, please suggest what 150mph sports 5-seater I SHOULD have bought on a budget of £14k for a three year old car, (Hint: I don't like 'chav' cars, but do like power and refinement.)

Thanks for your opinions, whatever they may be!

Ha, some might say you're a bit young for a jag, although the X type S models are particularly nice. Sports car are a bit useless if you live in town or do lots of miles, or indeed, have kids, but I will say that until you've driven a proper sportscar you'll never know what the fuss is about.

I'm perhaps not the best person to ask, because to me, 14k buys you a delicious lotus elise, and i'd be more than happy to put up with the total lack of refinement.

But to answer your question, the obvious competition for that car in the price bracket is the BMW 3 series, Lexus IS200 and Mercedes C class.

Personally, if it were my money, the Lexus would have it simply because of it's unshakable reliability record. If the company were paying for it, I'd take the jag, it's the only one that's got soul!

If it helps, I drive a Megane 226 Sport day to day, and have an MGF that I crack out on sunny days. Oddly, the Renault pummels it into next week in terms of performance, but the F makes me grin from ear to ear as it's just more fun.

i think of it relatively is an incredibly superb automobile, even though confident, it relatively is slightly of an old guy's automobile. i've got not got a difficulty which you have a ton of money, yet i think of which will **** off some those which you're driving this style of superb automobile (i do no longer understand in case you care). additionally, you likely shouldn't get some thing so quickly, considering you have an incredibly severe hazard of attending to an twist of fate with some thing with a huge V8 like that, even once you're a robust motive force. Matte black paint will look relatively undesirable. no longer stable flavor in any respect, sorry. It purely jogs my memory of a diminished old Toyota pickup truck. Jaguars are no longer inevitably old human beings automobiles, yet this one i'd say is the main elderly guy-ish of them. perchance you are able to choose an Jaguar XF, it relatively is a somewhat smaller automobile. Or an Acura TSX. through fact that's low priced, slower (no longer too sluggish yet no longer frightening quickly), yet nevertheless a luxury automobile. certainly having a clean biga$$ Jaguar sedan at 17 kinda makes you look like a douche. purely saying.

I would stick to your Jag, alot of us don't have the benefit to drive a Jag. They're sophisticated and so refined. Why go for a saxo or corsa just to fit in.
Stick with your Jaguar it's so much more reliable - you won't regret it.

I had my first Jag when I was 19 - a Mk10 3.8s pillarless coupe, bought it for thirty quid with a duff transmission, one new prop shaft seal and a couple of gallons of TQF had the old beasty going for nearly five years before I scrapped it due to rust - it was nearly 16 years old then.

Scrappy gave me £25 for the scrap and I sold the number plate for £300, pretty good return I think.

Drive happy.

it has to be a scooby wrx sti. u can get a great 1 for 14k. 54 plate to 55 plate. avoid the new shape imports, they are cheap because they are slower and are all 'unoficial' imports. there is nothin faster point to point on a wet bumpy britsh road, (0-60 4.1 secs, top speed 148mph) and fuel ecom. should work out about the same as your jag.
Or go for the proppa daddy!!.. a Lotus Carlton (they are 3.6L Twin Turbo. they do 190mph and 0-60 is also 4.1) and are just out of your budget, but u may find a cheaper one. usually about 17K . try ahem.. thingyBay +it wont depreciate.
Avoid bimmas, nobody will let u hav petrol, you will have to wait aaaages for the garage pump pillock to turn ur pump on, and nobody will let u pull out.. ever !.. and so they shudnt !!. dik eds cars !

What's the point in wasting your cash on a sports car when the roads in Britain aren't suitable for use it properly anyway.

A sports car is not much use when you're sitting in a traffic jam is it ?

Stick with your Jag - comfort, style, reliability, class, etc.

Your mates will be the ones looking like knobs when their tinny "sports" cars drop their exhausts or when they need to fork out extirtionate cash for fat tyres.

You and my husband! He loves his jag, and gets compliments on it all the time - mostly from men of a similar age who appreciate the excuisite engineering and classic design. Why are you so bothered about what other people say? Stick to your guns and be proud of your jag!

Remember the old saying "its not what you have got, its how you use it." Well make sure you don't drive it like an old man and then see how the cynics change. Stay safe and enjoy.
