Well, kids with crushes tend to admire from afar. If a kid can have a crush on the popular girl he never spoke to and she doesn't even know his name...it is very easy to develop a crush on a figure you see on TV. A dream girl is a dream girl, and celebrities tend to become many people's dream girls...I mean, it is not only teenagers...Jessica Alba is probably a good example of a celebrity who most guys, regardless of age, have a crush on. And then there's Angelina Jolie...another candidate.

And, they often want to be rich and/or popular/famous...dating someone who IS would be a handy shortcut.
