I guess Irfan Pathan has been selected because of the following reasons:
Because of his past achievements.
Because of the famous saying:" Form is temporary, Class is permanent."
Because I think he is the only genuine allrounder that we have at present. He is known for his bowling (though he has been out of sorts for quite a while now) and his batting as well as fielding is quite impressive as well.
Moreover, we cannot dump him just because he is not in good form at the moment. He is very young at the moment and dumping him would result in his confidence being very low. We have to motivate him and see to it that he is high on morale.
Lastly, did we dump Sachin when he was going through a bad phase? No, we didn't. We persisted with him. Moreover, Irfan Pathan should be played in most of the games in the world cup since the actual playing conditions are quite different from net practice. The more he plays, the better he will become.

The reasons they have chosen Irfan over Nehra or balaji...
1. Nehra runs into bowl like a derailed train..
2. balaji looks like a polio patient..
Just kidding.
I think they have selected Irfan because of his batting, he is a better batsmen than most of the liabilities indian team carries around the globe.

IRFAN is better than these two at present. NEHRA is not doing well at the domestic circuit and BALAJI is currently going to ENGLAND to treat his injury in his back.
IRFAN's selection was made on reputation and the selectors did not want to experiment anyone new in the WC, which no country will try to do.....
IRFAN IS A GOOD PLAYER, LET US ALL HOPE HE PLAYS WELL IN THE WC.

irfan pathan is a proven match winner and he is the only all rounder india posses.if he is in form he can take the match away from any side.with other youngsters we dont know wether they have the potential or not so it will be a big gamble.

The Indian team and selectors are clueless and very desparate. They will most probably ask their coach to become a player-coach to help them in the World Cup.
Nothing however will help. They will not win the World Cup without some serious match fixing.

because irfan pathan is an all rounder and a match winner, he
can bat at any number and can swing the ball with proper line &
length. so he can be used at any time in needs

well irfan is exceptionally gifted baller with a wonderful swing and therefore u can't say that he not in good or bad form therfre he must be given more chance for the same and that's what selection commity doing.

First of all he is not unfit.
second he is a good all rounder.
