What are "Texas Special" pickups? What are their advantages and disadvantages and what do they sound like? Im thinkin of buying an imported 50's replica Japanese Strat, and they have Texas specials fitted as standard.

Cheers to whoever posted- a bit of info- the Japanese Fenders are far superior in build quality and finish in comparison to the equivalent Mexican made strats. I have heard a few pros say that the jap strats are equivalent to £800-900 American strats. This strat costs half of that, and is beautifull to look at play. It is a 50's replica with fat neck, 50s body and tremolo system and single ply scratchplate. 2 tone sunburst and glossy varhish maple neck. Fender spaghetti logo on headstock.yummy!

Texas Specials are Fender single coil pickups, that are direct replacements for the standard strat pickups. Some versions of the strat have them as standard. They have more coils than the standard pickup so have a brighter, louder output. As stated Stevie Ray Vaughn used them. they are great for Blues and Blues-Rock.

The guitar sounds like a good buy. Enjoy

.I do not know this and if no one answers my husband will know but he is asleep right now. Why do you specifically want a Japanese strat? A certain sound or a money thing? I will check back to see if you got any answers.

they're loose wound ( or over wound) give you that extra twang, like the telecaster sound, srv used them alot, have a listen to his sound and it might give you the idea.
