Give them 24 hours notice that you are going away for a while and they must go home. Don't give them details, just do it.

I am so curious how long they have been there? I too have had this problem before.
I always thought hanging a Hotel daily Price sheet on their door would be good.
You could prepare a bill for them. Room charge $50.00 per day, $5.00 for every meal they have eaten. $3.00 for snacks and drinks. You know I think these prices are to low, they might pay and stay. Triple all of the prices. That should do it.
If you have had to drive them any where 50 cents per mile.
The above are meant to be humorous.
Once we claimed we were having the inside of the house painted, and they would have to leave.
About 25 years ago we had moved into our new house. Now it is big, but in one winter (we are in Florida) Nine sets of company came between Halloween and Easter.
My Mother in law, invited 2 of her sisters to come for 10 days over Christmas. A cat burgler broke in over night and stole all of the Christmas presents. It was a mad house.
You become a maid service and a resturant. Truly crazy time.
The last people that year showed up at our door by cab (we are 26 miles from the airport). WE NEVER KNEW THEY WERE COMING. AND THEY PLANNED TO STAY A WEEK. OMG.
By that time I was so burned out.
After 3 days I told my Husband Them or Me. They were his friends. So he delivered them to Disney World and a hotel there.
My open door policy ended that year. And sanity returned to my life. We stay in hotels when we visit people and go visit people instread of inviting them to our home. The kids are gone now so I am doing a new guest room so maybe I am over it.
Good Luck it is difficult to get rid of them. Is it your friend or your husbands. You could always say you have to go out of town.
Or your Parents are coming for a visit or you are coming down with the measles, mumps, chicken pox.
If it is a man mumps would be best. Good Luck.

Be polite (coz u never know when you have the exterminator in, or accidentally set the place on fire and need to stay at theirs for a while) but lie your pants off!!!Anything you can think of.. In laws coming to visit and need the space, Your wife/husband/sun/daughter wants them to go, your turning their room into a study and builders are coming tomorrow... just make sure you don't get caught!

Wait until they are in the bathroom and then remove the bed from the room they are staying in. set their bags by the door and start their car to let it warm up. if they dont get the hint then lock them in the basement and tell them: "It puts the lotion in the basket."

Sometimes you just got to just tell them to leave. I had a friend once and he was making no effort to make it on his own so I just gave him thirty days to find other arrangements.
good Luck
