Yes. As both of you are signatories on the account, either of you can do whatever you want with it.

Hello.
The question is is not clear. How many persons are there in that joint account, you refered? What is the type of the account?
That is should both, or all the members sign a cheque for encashment or to forward to any company for payment settlements? Can anybody,I mean any member , can issue cheques? So, here you want to stop a cheque, drawn in your joint account.Who issued the cheque? If it is not you, then if the person who signed the cheque is empowered , by nature of account, you can't stop it.It shall be done by that particular person who issued or signed the cheque. If there is a clause that both, or all members should sign the cheque in the joint account and this cheque you are referring is not signed by all, you need not worry ...the bank will not honour it.It can not be en cashed.
So .Friend , this is what I think and , this much only I can answer.
Hope you got the Idea.

If the account is half in your name, and your name is on the cheque you need to cancel, then absolutely.

What is mode of operation? Single / Joint / All. If single, you are king. If joint, you are nothing. Always make a/c as either or survivor.
