My xbox live was fine and then it suddenly disconnected and when I test the setting it says MTU failed when I've been playing on xbox live for ages I can't understand why it's suddenly come up with this problem. Can anyone help? What does MTU mean?

In case you're just trying to connect now: Xbox Live is currently in Maintenance. Therefore you're unable to connect just now.
Quote from Major Nelson's Webblog: "On Tuesday February 20th from 0200-0500 PT Xbox Live will be offline for maintenance."
MTU = Maximum Transmission Unit.
Its the size of a single packet that can be sent through a network.
Depending on the devices, that you use to connect to the internet, the standard MTU might be too big. Normally these Packets will be broken up into smaller parts and then reassembled. However, in some cases, the "other end" of your Internet connection is unable to recieve fragmented packets and is also unable to recieve the packet in one piece due to its size.
Ask your Internet Provider or the Microsoft Hotline on how to fix this problem, as there are too many sources for this error.

Maximum Transmission Unit or MTU is the size of the largest packet that a given layer of a communications protocol can pass onwards, If you have had no problems with MTU in the past more then likely you can simply try resetting your router and you should be fine

The same thing happend to me like 5 minutes ago and i didnt know what happend i was in the middle of a game.
If you find out whats wrong then tell me cause i am wondering how to get it working and every time i test the connection it says failed but it wont let me look at what the problem was

XBox stay is offline for twenty-four hours beginning midnight Sunday. They sent all consumers a message approximately it. seems they are having some matters getting it lower back on line and it remains down as of 0400 CST.

Yep Same happened to me, i found out its updating xbox live and trying to get any bugs out of the online experiences, like when you play a match online with call of duty 3, it says " game session has ended" on a ranked match, yeha its just gay errors with microsoft xbox live, there the main things they try to bug out
hope it works out for all of us Xbox 360 gamers that play online :)

Have you tried turning your xbox off then back on again? Sometimes it just won't connect on the first try. It's rare, but it does happen. If it still does not connect then unconnect all of your connections and reboot your modem after reconnecting your wires.
