The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.
I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.
Associations may be a good avenue to explore. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.
Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

Post an ad on craigslist that says you will clean houses and state how much you want to be paid. Look at the other ads on craigslist to give you a feeling for how the ad should be written. I found a nonprofessional house cleaner through craigslist. Most of them on there are not with a big company.
I also don't think it's a degrading job. Every job needs to be done whether it's a garbage man or a doctor. I'm sure glad that both jobs are filled with qualified people. I work in an office, but I am no better than the people who come to clean it.

You have some excellent answers here, the only thing I can add would be to check up hazardous materials and health and safety issues, costs of personal protective equipment and insurance.
