ive just bought a 1994 1.6 16v lx escort it runs perfect apart from when the clutch is engaged it bangs once every time i let the clutch out (its not to loud) and the front end of the car jolts up it feels like the engine is going to jump out of the hood i thought the engine mountians were loose but there not could it be the engine mountian rubbers that are worn or is it somthing else

Could be that the motor mount rubber has become detached (torn loose) from the metal mounting plate. Watch your engine and have someone slightly release the clutch as if they were going to drive off (with the parking brake on) and see if the engine torques up on one side....Good Luck...

The clutch is damaged from the previous owner. You can learn to dive it by judicious use of the clutch, or have the clutch plate replaced.

it could be an engine mounting on the gearbox or the thrust bearing in the clutch
