Directors take the age ranges differently for every part. Say the director is looking for someone that is say, five. They will look for a five year old, or a four year old that is as smart as a five year old. I tried out for a part when I was 13 that called for a 16 year old. (I look a little old for my age) but that was years ago. (needless to say I didn't get the part either.) Directors will take you seriously if you take the audition seriously. If you are 15, don't try out of a part that is for a 30 year old.
Best of luck!!

As someone who also enjoys acting, I try to keep up with movies/casting calls that are happening in my area. Do a search for your state's Film Commission. I am 23, was an extra in 3 movies, and was in a Drunk Driving educational video. I gave up on acting because I wasn't getting anywhere. I'm going to college now to get a degree in English. If you look at the background of a lot of celebrities, most of them either started out young or graduated from some acting school. I would recommend getting professional pictures taken and create a portfolio. Then find your state's Film Commission website, see if any movies/commercials are being filmed in your area. They usually say what age range/ethnicity they're looking for and who to send your headshot and resumé to. Good luck!

I look at it this way. If you can act well, that's an ability you have. Providing you practice and get better, age doesn't matter. People of all ages are on tv, in movies, everywhere. A good director will know talent when he sees it. If there's an audition you're thinking of trying for, go try! What have you got to loose?
You can act, so go act!!! :) Good luck

I'm not sure I understand this question. When you look at films/movies/television, there is obviously a need for actors at ALL ages. So, the proper age to start approaching it as a career is simply the age at which it seems right for you.

Any age really. In acting there are parts for babies, children, tweens, teens, young adults, adults, middle age, elderly. It goes through the whole spectrum.
