If I were a student in the Philedelphia School System, I would be required to pass a course in Black history. Should courses in Caucasian, Latino, Asian, Native American and Semetic history also be required to fulfill graduation requirements?

If you believe not, explain why?
Otherwise, what is this multi-culturalism
thing about?

I surely hope that other minorities
and caucasians chime in. This is
pure, blatant BS.

I am a Native woman.

And as a Native woman I can say that I would love high schools to require a course in Native history.

Now regardless of that I am absolutely Thrilled! that they are requiring a course in Black history. It is definately a step in the right direction. We do not have to take away the success of another just because we desire more success or success for our own ethnicity. You are right, it all should be taught, but just be glad that it is begining to be expanded now. Instead of youth being completely ignorant they are learning Black history. That is awesome! Now we can keep that and hope for more..

Well, high school curriculums require us to learn American and World history which is basically filled with contributions made by white people. Both classes are basically considered white history since we are forced to learn about white explorers, kings, queens, artists, musicians, greek mythology...etc. If we are REQUIRED to learn everything about white historians, the same amount of information about other nationalities should be taught and required.

African Americans and other people of African descent were classified as a race that had not made any contribution to human civilization; they were continually dehumanized and relegated to the position of non-citizens and often defined as fractions of humans.

If the contributions of people from various races, ethnicities and even genders would be taught fairly and properly, and not heavily favored toward white historians, there would be no issues. But instead, we are forced to think white people conquered and discovered everything just because the truth about our heritage is so unknown in schools.

Every student's education should include such African-American figures as Crispus Attucks, who died in the Boston Massacre; Dr. Daniel Williams, who performed the world’s first open-heart surgery; Matthew A. Henson, who co-discovered the North Pole with Robert Peary, and Benjamin Banneker, the pioneer scientist who helped conduct the first survey of Washington. But, if you’re like me, those names weren’t mentioned in history classes, and still aren’t today. The only time black people are mentions is when we are talking about slaves, or the jazz era in American History.

Chicago, having to pass any diversity course or being forced to take the class is ASININE!!! The Philadelphia school system is the only one in America, that requires it's young skulls full of feces to go through this kind of indoctrination. Talk about an activity leading to racism!!! No wonder this country is experiencing its second great expansion of white sprawl and rightfully so!!!

Would you die to learn the history of Black people? However, there should be other history classes for all minorities. I also believe there shouldn't be a Caucasian one, because that is what we already learn in school.

Because the brothas are the majority in the area. Maybe they should offer college degrees in black philosophy. That will get the job market going.

Diversity = destruction. No common anything.

It is definitely a step in the right direction, I would love to know why they are so crime prone & the reasons they will give for becoming this way.
