The only 100% positive way to determine gender of child would be to medically check each sperm, separate male from female sperm, fertilise the eggs and then go through the IVF routine. Not only is this very expensive, I understand that doctors will not perform such an exercise unless there is a medical reason for not wanting a child of a particular sex (eg. haemophilia, which affects only male children).
There are various methods which will increase the chances of having one sex baby over another - a diet full of dairy is more likely to be favourable to a girl than a boy; having sex frequently early on in the woman's cycle is more likely to result in a girl; having sex late in the cycle more likely to be a boy. Certain positions tend to favour one over the other - the reason for this is that male sperm swim faster than female sperm but do not last long; female sperm are more hardy but slower. None of these methods is 100% effective, but may increase the likelihood of one sex child above the 50% probability.

Yes, but only if you have assisted conception eg: IVF, where they can test each embryo and preselect a certain sex only for embryo transfer, so you can be assured if any of the embryos take they will definitely be either boys or girls. Particularly handy if your family suffers from any sex-linked genetic disorders.
Or if you go the ICSI route before IVF they can even preselect sperm to inject into the egg which will guarantee if the egg fertilizese the embryo will be a boy or a girl. Some couples are more comfortable with this option - they feel okay about discarding sperm that are not carrying the correct sex gene, but get squeamish about discarding actual embryos that are the "wrong" sex. But some people are ok with it. To each their own.
But as far as natural conception goes? No. There is no way to preselect the sex of the baby. You could try timing intercourse around ovulation, or you could try special diets or positions for intercourse but nothing can really guarantee anything. What you get is what you get!

Supposedly the position and schedule may have an effect. The sperm that carry the y (male) chromosome swim faster but die faster, so male superior postion the day that you ovulate would be more likely to give you a boy. Female superior a day or two before ovulation would be more likely to give you a girl. This just gives you better chances. If you really wanted one gender, you would have to have expensive medical procedures.

There are doctors that can separate the sperm, thus giving you the ability to chose the gender of your child...the sperm that create males are lighter and more much faster but do not last as long... the sperm that create females are bigger and fatter, do not travel as fast, but have been known to last longer for fertilization.
