Is it possible to biuld an electromagnet about 1cm in diameter and 1/2cm thick ?

If so, how? I want an electromagnetic that size with the magnetic power of a rare earth magnet roughly the same size

Yes, that size should be available. You may want to look up catalogs or stop by a electronics stores. If you cannot find the right coil, you may want to buy a reed relay of about that size and the voltage you choose and disassemble it to get the electromagnet.

My cell is less then an in wide and has a speaker about one teenth in size!!
