It's as safe as any other resort area in the Caribbean or the US.

That means it's safe if you observe some safety rules: stay within sight of resort personnel and do not wander off at night by yourself. Be watchful of strangers even if they appear well groomed and well heeled. Do not accept drinks from anyone but those in your party (friends and relatives who come there with you from home). Do not let yourself be the center of attention at a bar or restaurant. Do not get intoxicated with anything.

Aruba was/is considered safe too but look what happened to Natalee Holloway...Enjoy yourself but be careful.

I was there last week and asked the Taxi driver the same thing. He told us the crime rate is very low, that we had nothing to worry about.

My only complaint, everything is VERY expensive in Our Lucaya. A cheeseburger with fries at the Sheraton on the beach was $13! T Shirts - around $30 each. You can buy 3 for $10 but they are very low quality. If you can get to Nassau, wait to buy stuff there.
