The A3, TT, RS4, and the S-line cars: S4, S6, S8.

The DSG transmission eliminates the manual use of clutch, with gears selected with the paddles.

The engine speed to upshift will depend on how fast you are trying to accelerate. The faster you accelerate, then the higher the rpm for the shift. For normal acceleration on a city street, I would think somewhere between 2000-3000 rpm. I am not familiar with the paddle shifters, so I can't say if you have to downshift or not. You can check what the owner manual says about speed range in each gear. So I would want to be in the middle of the range for the lower gear when I downshifted. Good luck.

I have an a3 s line it has the dsg transmission with paddle shifters.
It allows you to shift with the paddles left paddle shift up right paddle shift down, also has just regular auto transmission you dont have to use the paddles. Then you can also shift on the stick by putting shift lever to the right and tap forward for up and tap back on it to down shift. But at anytime either in manual mode or auto mode you can use the paddles its a blast and the transmission is smooth.actually the fastest shifting possible in the dsg is in sport mode in auto transmission selection. Yes the rs4 has em too. RS4 $$$wow$$$ I want ....
