I believe it has to do w/ freedom. Women are able to do more here then in other countries. Soccer is a popular sport & many girls play it young in the US. The collegiate system helps to further that develop, to the point women in the USA are exposed to a very competitive system. On the US National Women teams, you see the cream of the crop from that system. Other countries are trying to develop their Women's team through the Club system, but it doesn't seem to be the best at the moment.

I believe that because Women's Soccer isn't as developed as Men's Soccer, thus giving everyone a 'fair start' on breaking ground. For example, when the U.S. Men's team started to play soccer, they lost and badly to the Mexican team because the Mexican team had more experience, more time playing the game, better players. Now things are a little bit balanced, however you still can't put the U.S. Men's team against Germany or Brazil, there's too much difference, too much experience, too many great players in these or some other World Cup champions when pitted against the U.S.

Now, Women Soccer had the impulse of starting anew, plus colleges and universities gave ample support to the game (by scholarships and such). Furthermore, here in the U.S., because of the economy, many players have the chance to miss work, miss school, or all together don't go to school or work (or maybe work as a soccer player) and emphasize all their time and effort to the game.

I was wondering the same question...
I'm Italian and Italy Men's Soccer Team is World Champion, as everybody knows, but our Women's Soccer team sucks. the opposite in USA, where Women's team is very good and men's team sucks. Maybe because in Italy (like most of the world) soccer is still considered a "man's sport" and in USA is not. who knows?

They dont. As a matter of fact they aren't even ranked number 1 by FIFA. They didnt even reach the last women's world cup final. However, they did settle for 3rd place. I wonder what gave you the idea that they dominated women's soccer?
