Yes I know it's possible. I was a very dark, depressed person a few years ago...very pessimistic. The key is to first of all surround yourself with positive people. Negativity breeds negativity. Also, try to read positive affirmation books. It may sound silly, but believe me what you feed your mind is what you become. Positive affirmations daily will help you to stop and think bout things in a different way. Look at the things you DO have, not the things you don't have. Read the paper and you will see how truly blessed you are compared to so many others. Be thankful for every day of your life. You never know what the future holds. Accept yourself and others for who they are and eventually you will find your mind getting more positive than negative. Life is worth living.

Why in the world would you want to?! It's highly overrated.

I've tried both and believe me, pessimism is the way to go. I and (oddly) those around me seem to be much happier and safer when pessimism is the order of the day. Pessimists tend to be funny. Optimists just tend to be annoying. I've also found that pessimists seem to have a greater capacity for true compassion (from the Latin meaning to "feel with", to mourn with those that mourn) than do optimists.

And that's my pronouncement on that subject.

Optimists are now free to fire their defensive darts and smarmy encouragements.
