I would appeal to all not to generalise, especially when you are on the other side of the world and do not really know the Chinese. I am quite disturbed by how other answerers start mentioning other meats as well - in an intonation that degrades another racial group.

I am a Chinese but not from mainland China. For some provinces in China, and in the old days, yes, some Chinese do eat dog meat, the way people would take beef, mutton, pork, and chicken. I find the thought of eating dog meat gross too, but I would not judge too much because this is a literal case of something that is one man's meat would be another's poison.

By the way, people from Korea and Vietnam are not necessarily Chinese. For some respondents, please get your facts right before you answer.

Yes, they do. They also eat cats. Dog meat is also considered a delicacy in Korea. I think it's pretty gross.

possibly some areas have the custom. yet in my fatherland, human beings hardly devour canines. canines are used for guards and pets. no longer for nutrition. human beings by no ability improve canines for nutrition. yet on occasion, some undesirable adult men would shoot different's canine and devour it exterior. human beings only devour canines while they prefer some variations or new tastes. yet canines have by no ability been the formal ingredients in the kitchen.

which is why I'm not too keen on these people.
I even know of one Chinese gentleman my brother in law met on a business trip; he said he hated Westerners because they care, feed and play with cats & dogs -- to him, this was like "playing with food".

Eating them out of famine is one thing, but it's hard for me to respect a culture that sees dogs and cats as food.

The actual myth is that the Vietnamese eat dog meat. It isn't true. It started in the Vietnam war, when the Vietnamese were deprived of food so they ate their pets to survive.
