these people are called "assholes". they're selfish, uncaring, ininterested, self-centered, and dramatic. these type of people are ones that want everyone to think that they're cool and all that good stuff, but when **** hits the fan, they duck and run because they're not willing to open themselves up to another person's misfortune. they, for some reason, think that they're better than others and dont deserve to have they're own seemingly comfortable existance be tainted by anothers negativity. or maybe they're just too focused on partying and having a "good time" and dont want any sort of reality to ruin their fun. usually that's caused by a tremendous insecurity. denial. how many times have you been that shoulder to cry on? or have u listened for hours to endless rants about rediculous drama that in actuality, is no big deal? yet, because you're a "friend" you listen, you comfort, and you do what u can to make them feel better. i'm sorry, hon but you're going to run into these people a LOT in life. it's hard to sift them out of the crowd. usually you wont realize that they really dont give two shits about anyone but themselves until after you've invested more energy on them than you can even afford. keep your head up and remember that you're a good person. learn from your misfortunes and use them to get stronger. try not to rely on others too much to help you through hard times. if they're truly your friend, they'll be there without you even asking. peace.

I think they are called, people who are busy facing their own problems.
Ask yourself are you ever there when someone else is going through a hard time?
But to answer your question, I guess he/she is not a genuine pal. Friends should be there when you're happy or sad. The real ones are there for you even if they're dealing with their own problems.

So sorry about your hellish experience, true friends are there through thick and thin through the happy times and sad and rough times. She is a conditional friend one who is only there if your are happy.

it's saying that they are incapable of supporting their friend when their support is needed.i wouldn't call a person like that my friend :( however they might have been through a rough time as well, you never know until you ask them.
good luck and hope you decide to talk to her before you cut her of, everybody deserves a second chance :)

Most people are like this. They don't want to hear about your crap. You have to walk that path alone I am afraid. It will make you tougher and more self-reliant. I k know: life has been always like this. When people get older they are even less understanding of others.

These people are known as fair weather friends. Sadly, the world appears to be full of them.
Best wishes, J
