This is one of his famous quotes about religion, see how he has mixed and matched it with science:

Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people's religion. How on earth can you explain in terms of chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as religion? Put your hand on a stove for a minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with that special God for an hour and it seems like a minute. That's relativity.

Buddhism is a path of practice and spiritual development leading to insight into the true nature of life.

Buddhism does not include the idea of worshipping a creator god (some people do not see it as a religion in the normal, Western sense) so this fits with the "modern scientific needs" that Einstein speaks of.

The basic tenets of Buddhist teaching are straightforward and practical - nothing is fixed or permanent; actions have consequences; change is possible. Again this suits the scientific community.

Because Budhism is not a religion, it's a way of living. One of it's primary things is truth. Budddha hypothosizes galaxies beyond our view 2,500 years ago, long before Western man found everything doesn't revolve around us.
Budhism never let's it's "concepts" prevent it from seeing what is right before them. Very much like scientific method.

the Buddha is just as happy in the wiring of a computer as in the branches of a tree said a friend of mine. Seems like that is an religion that would appeal to a technologist bomb maker > and who knighted him and when did it happen?
