generally the interview has following steps:

1. personal info - just to make candidate comfortable
2. Education - to understand the intellectual capacity
3. Past projects and assignment- to judge the relevance for the current openings in the company
4. closure - where in they check your current salary, expectations, notice period etc.

That is your opportunity to bring up a hobby or past time that might lead the conversation away from reviewing your resume and the job.

Lets admit it if you got the interview then there is merit in your skills towards the job. You need to reassure them that you are easy to work with and will get along and they might actually like you. This can be done by the subjects brought up in your answer to the question.

The interviewer is not prepared to conduct an interview . only in such cases such Question is asked. Most of interview conducting higher heads are not good in conducting interview.
