Singles are ideally supposed to hype an album's release OR boost sales after an album is released. Singles often include B-sides, rarities, or remix tracks that you woulnd't be able to find on the album. A single contains 1-3 songs while an album typically contains 12+ songs. An e.p is typicall 4-8 songs.

A Single is generally the release of a single track, often supported by 1 or 2 other tracks, commonly known as the 'B' side (when tapes were around). An album is a showcase of thge artists work and can feature anywhere between 8 and 20 songs

a single holds only one song, usually one thats on the radio from an album. sometimes a single has 2 or 3 songs but usually they're remix's of the original song. an album is a collection of songs. usually more than 10.
example: My Love ft. TI is a single from Justin Timberlakes album FutureSex/LoveSounds
If you don't want to buy the whole album, you could simply buy the single.

Interesting. I wonder if a single is still available for purchase. Back in the old days people could purchase a single song on a vinyl record 38"?or the whole band's album which contained a collection of songs.

a single is one hit song off an album done a few different ways usually and the album is all their songs they made for the album
